Hey all you south Florida sailors, The Key West Sailing Club is attempting to organize a trip to Fort Jefferson in the Dry Tortugas from 9 - 13 April. The loose plan, weather permitting, is this: Sail from Key West on the morning of the 9th (Monday), spend a night at the Marquesas Keys, and press on to Fort Jefferson (Garden Key) on the 10th. We plan to weigh anchor for the return trip on morning the 12th, with an overnight at Woman Key on the way back. We are planning on doing all of our sailing on the Atlantic side of the Keys, weather permitting. Total round-trip mileage is about 130 miles. This is a Bring-Your-Own type of event, and you'll need to bring plenty of it as there are NO FACILITIES at Fort Jefferson- Not even fresh water. We are also trying to put together a 'Pot luck' raft-up for the evening of the 11th, so try to bring some food and beverage to share. We are inviting everyone who wants to come along to share in the trip, and if you can't bring your own boat, we may be able to find a crew slot for you on someone else's! If you're interested, contact me at jonbastien@yahoo.com and I can fill you in on the details... --Jon Bastien H25 'Adagio'

Wait For Me!!

Jon, If you will just hang around Ft. Jefferson for a couple months, I'll be there Mid-June! <G> A very rough looking crew from our club is chartering out of Ft. Myers to the Dry Tortugas and then over to Key West. I made the same trip about 6 years ago during May and it was great! How is the anchorage at Woman Key? We made the legs from Ft. Jefferson to Key West in a single day but never hurts to have a hidey-hole along the way. The Marquesas looks a bit shallow and tricky for bigger boats. We were in a 44' last trip and will be on a 38' this time. Dick Vance H-25.5 "Honey Bear"

How about I split the difference?

I just got a call this week to crew on a one-week cruise from Ft Myers to Key West via the Dry Tortugas and return. It's scheduled for the third week in May. Hey Jon B, if you e-mail me some contact info I will drop in and say hi when I get to the Conch Republic. If memory serves me correct, I believe I owe you a six-pack of cold brewed beverage in return for some masthead sheaves. Peter S/V Raven
