I cancelled my previously scheduled cruise to Manhattan and decided to sail to Greenport instead. I am leaving Mt Sinai around Midnight on Friday to catch the Ebb tide at Plum Gut. Looking forward to some great sailing.

Welcome to town. I'll be off somewhere else but let us know how your cruise was and how Greenport was. There are a lot of folks here who want to make this a even more sail friendly place.

Great Place

When I first retired in 2007 season I was keeping my boat at Brewers in Greenport and spent more time on my boat in Greenport than at home sleeping many nights on my boat and be able to walk and dinghy over into town in Greenport, its a very nice town with many shops and stores and restaurants to enjoy.
Also if you have the time our other favorite anchorage is a short sail around Shelter Island over to Sag Harbor where you can anchor free out next to town mooring field, also nice town to walk around and eat dinner and Ice Cream.
You are only a days sail to Block but maybe you can do that next year, the east end at Greenport is a great place start from where we would do some great sailing trips.
Have a great time,do you prefer anchoring or a slip.

looks like we're in for a stellar weekend!! can't wait. planning to sail around the island (we're in west neck harbor) but want to be out even longer. maybe will have to anchor for awhile and just relax.

plan to sail the 30 from manhattan to shelter in a few weeks. need to plan that out

I love Greenport. My only gripe is that there are no moorings available.
Sometimes I will stay in Deering Harbor and take the ferry over to town.

Well, guys we made it to Greenport. It was mostlly about 9 hrs motor sail, but when we got to Gardiners Bay we had a blast with some great sailing. We are currently on a slip at Mitchell Park Mariner (very expensive @ 3.50 /ft but very nice) and will be leaving tomorrow. Greenport is a beautiful town and I'll be back. Next time I'll like to sail peconic bay. Heard good things about it.

Sorry

I am sorry but I sailed the Peconic bays for some 5 or so years and yes it is good sailing and not many Marina's or mooring's either.
When I moved my boat to Greenport I thought I died and went to heaven, such great places to sail to all around Shelter Island,Sag Harbor,Three Mile Harbor and Block is a blast, over to Mystic Seaport so many places to sail to,I love now sailing in Florida all year but will always miss sailing out of Greenport.
