I'm planning to do a sail from Ocean City MD to Chincoteaque VA (40 miles) this summer and would like to put into a nice marina rather than ride the hook ( wife likes showers and resturants). Any suggestions? I've tried the internet and haven't found anything as yet. Has anyone sailed behind Assateaque Island to Chincoteaque? I may tryy that approach but am concerned about clearance onthe bridged in Chincoteaque. I need 34.5 feet. Comments? The charts are less than helpful. Hayden

Behind Assateague? Yikes!

I have run aground in a power-boat drawing 18" back there. A sailboat? Hmmmm... sounds pretty crazy unless you've got a swing-keel. Sorry, I can't help you with anchorages. I've haven't had that "problem" yet, but hope to soon! Good luck!

Sailing to Chincoteague

Hi Walt, A friend of mine is the owner of Barnacle Bill's Bait and Tackle located across from the carnival grounds on the island. She has slips available at $10 per day or $50 per week. Phone is 1-757-336-5920. HOWEVER, the waters are very shallow everywhere around the island. The water on the north side of the bridge is not for sailboats that require any depth. Good luck!

Ches Bay Mag..

just did an article, I believe last month, on sailing the inside passage. Seems like they were going from Norfolk up. I don't remember the specifics but you might find it helpful.
