Sailing to Catalina - Sweet Video!!!

Joel!!! Great videos. We (my wife and I watched them the other night. I think you have inspired us to haul the boat down there and head over to the island someday.

One question, what is the best time of year to go? We are both fair weather sailors, and haven't done anything like that before. I have sailed the SF Bay plenty, but there is land all around, and the Coast Guard and Police are right there if is any trouble. Do you recommend going with a small group of people? We have a freind that has the same boat, and we could do it with them, but ifa karger group is better, then we might try it. Also. How hard is it to get a mooring ball, and can you tie up two boats to one?

That looks like such a cool trip! I was stationed at MCAS El Toro back in the 70's, not far inland from Catalina. We flew over once in a Cessna.

You're right about that - they usually just end up abandoned in someone's backyard for years and years.
