Brian's advice is very good. What he may indirectly be mentioning can be considered what are called "danger bearings" in traditional navigation courses.

Have a great cruise.

Thanks so much everybody for the great tips!

Richard - I'm familiar with Chula Vista marina (really enjoy it there), but this will be a new slip in a diff area than we're used to, so the lighting is important.
Joe - Sounds like a fun trip! The spinnaker part will have to wait until we get one, though... (-;
Ted - Thx for the tip on Oceanside. We used to keep a boat there, but I've never stayed at the guest dock, and didn't know about that procedure.
Brian - Excellent of you to provide the kelp-avoidance waypoints - I'll program those in.
Stu - Thanks! I've got high hopes for our first trip in the "new" boat. (-:

We're heading out tomorrow morning from Dana Point on our "inaugural voyage". (That makes it sound like a bigger deal than "going out for a sail"!) ;)

We got the roller furler drum replaced this morning, and I'm a bit concerned about the genoa, which is in pretty rough shape. We'll need to replace that once we're settled in San Diego. Our plan is to head for Mission Bay, with the option to turn in at Oceanside depending on how things are going.

Thanks to all for your advice and assistance! - Deanna.
