My wife and I live in Nashville and usually sail on Percy Priest Lake in our Mac25. This spring we're hoping to move the boat over to the Cumberland and sail/motor the river up to Barkley Lake/Kentucky Lake.

Has anyone around here done this? I'd love to hear any pointers or advice you might have. My primary concern is with not knowing how long it'll take to get down the river and then back upriver again.

Sailing/motoring Cumberland

I Have Not Motored The Cumberland, But Know It Is Quite Narrow In Alot Of Places And Due To The Barge Traffic Need To Find Save Place To Anchor At Night As I Don't Think There Are Alot Of Marinas. Now For Barkley Lake, Which I Did Sail On A Couple Of Times, Very Shallow Need To Have A Good Depth Finder And Stay In The Channel Or Very Close To The Markers. Sailing In West Kentucky Is Best On Kentucky Lake Which You Can Reach By The Cannel Just South Of Green Turtle Bay.
We Are Planning To Trailer Our Mac 26 Out To Kentucky Lake This Coming May And Stay At The Sailboat Marina At Grand River, Ky.

Did you make the trip from Nashville to the Barkley Lake? What did you learn? I am Grand Rivers on Kentucky Lake and have been wanting to sail to Nashville and have had concerns about the depth and the 'sailing width' of the Cumberland.
