All, I was down at the dock last night. I talked with the owner of the marina’s J22 rental fleet. He started referring to a process he called "Bow String"ing. He was referring to tightening a line or halyard by pulling away from the deck or mast while holding the end fast and taking up the generated slack through the cleat. I always called this procedure "Sweating" as in "Sweating the Halyard". It means the same thing. He had never heard the term. Has anyone else heard or use the term "Sweating" to identify this procedure. Or has my brain come loose again? Greg

of course!

Greg: Of course we have heard of this. When you stand out in the sun too long holding the halyard you start "SWEATING". The harder you pull the more you "SWEAT". This just goes to show you we need a HOW glossary of terms. PHIL DID YOU HEAR THAT! 1. Receipe forum 2. Glossary forum

Of course,

I was right. Got home and looked it up in my "Sailing Terms" book. How could I ever doubt myself! Greg
