Many of us on the "right" coast are in the process of filling out fall haul out requests, the formal recognition (global warming notwithstanding...) of the impending end of the sailing season. I'd be curious to hear from other sailors about how many days they spend aboard their boats per season -- sailing that is; doing maintenance or just hanging out on your boat in its slip/mooring are important days, but if you count them here please indicate that as well. Also, indicate if you are liveaboard and, if so, how many days you actually got the boat moving. In my case, I mostly sail the Chesapeake Bay and typically spend 50 - 55 days per season sailing the boat. And I'm dreading the thought of my boat being high and dry in about 6 weeks or so.... Funny you should ask, I just completed calcualtions to repsond to another post regarding what it costs you to sail per outing. I just calculated that I spent about forty five days out on the water this past season. No where near what I had intended at the start of the season, but as we all know, things change and "stuff" happens.

Using the approved quick count method, I figure we have been out around 65 days. With about everyone one of them on the hook. Longest sail/motor was about 140nm in five days. Sure sorry to see it end. *cry Jim S/V Java

early this season for two reasons: (1) I don't have a "Florida Room" built around my cockpit like you do; and (2) I need to do some work on the rudder/steering system and want to get that done before it gets really cold.

I get down to my boat pretty much every day, but only get out 4 times a weeks - i would estimate. Not all those times are aboard my boat, as I often go out on other's boats. My boat is not a bouy racer and I often crew on a CS 30. At the my club we jump on each others boats for afternoon outings quite frequently. Sometimes it is my boat, sometimes it is even a power boat.

Sometimes it is my boat, sometimes it is even a power boat.

For this year anyway. This is our second year with our own boat and last year was much better. As I remember it was around 20 or so days. However, we are not live aboards and are limited to our weekends for now. This year we are doing what a lot of people our age are doing. Downsizing.. Not at work, but at home. We put our primary house up for sale last December and started building our smaller one in March. (Great timing huh?) Even though the real estate market is not as bad here, it is impacted by the downturn. So most of our Summer was spent trying to sell one house and checking in on the construction of the other. We plan to make up for it next year though... We did get good news last week...got a contract on the one we are selling, and the new one is finished. So it is pack, pack, pack, move, move, move and then unpack. Next season we SAIL!!!!

Anyway, given my mom's poor health and the time I've spent on her and her affairs, I'm surprised I got in as much as I did. Beats the ZERO days I got in the year before. I don't think she'll make it to spring, so next year I'll spend a lot of time on the boat, thinking of how she and dad bought me a dinghy at age 12 and gifted me with a lifetime of pleasure. Tom

So picture yourself standing on the gulf coast looking north. Right coast- left coast. Also can be thought of "politically". Right- left... get it. Here on the "left coast" we like to think that we are somewhat more liberal. Unless you happen to be in Orange County California, then you may be a Bushie. Actually that is taking it too far. It is really about looking north from the eqautor. What is on your right and what is on your left. Let's not talk about the southern hemisphere okay. That will just mess the idea.

We went sailing pretty much every weekend from June 1 to October 14. We bought the boat at the beginning of May and the outboard and mainsail went to the shop causing the delay until June. About half the time I went out with the wife and boys, other times I have a couple of fellow dad's that are willing to crew.
