We are chartering (bareboat) in St. Martin this November. Our previously trip we sailed the BVIs and were a bit disappointed by the lack of wind. It was however very relaxing and easy to navigate. I understand St Martin has bigger water (my wife won't like that) and you had better do your homework in advance as far a charting goes.

Any suggestions on guidebooks etc. for the area plus places to visit and also avoid. (I also understand that Oyster Pond can be fun)

Thanks

Oh, too much to tell!. Getting in/out through customs will consume more of your time in SXM, but it adds to the thrill of the trip. We cleared out of Sint Maarten (Dutch) and in at Marigold (French) and in again in St. Barts. We also cleared in at Anguilla (British) and finally back to Dutch SXM.
All in all, more difficult than BVI but much more of a "cultural experience". Contact me off line if you want more info.
