Me father was the keeper of the Eddystone Light
And he slept with a mermaid one fine night
From this union there came three;
A porpoise and a porgy and the other was me!
Yo ho ho, the wind blows free,
Oh for the life on the rolling sea!
One night, as I was a-trimming of the glim
Singing a verse of the evening hymn
A voice on the starboard shouted "Ahoy!"
And there was my mother, a-sitting on a buoy.
Yo ho ho . . . . "Oh what has become of my children three ?"
My mother then she asked of me.
"One was exhibited as a talking fish
The other was served from a chafing dish."
Yo ho ho . . . . Then the phosphorous flashed in her seaweed hair.
I looked again, and my mother wasn't there
But her voice came echoing back from the night
"To Hell with the keeper of the Eddystone Light!"
Yo ho ho . . . .

Growing up in Hawaii there is just one real local sailing song. It is a bit slow, awesome lyrics about all the old Salts we know. Let it load and listen to the whole song.

Cecilio and Kapono Sailin'

This is one of those reunion videos, the song was much better harmonized 20 years ago.

The Big Island. I lived in Kona, Kau, right above Pahala, then in Puna county near Pahoa, graduated from Pahoa High, and then lived in Hilo before leaving at age 19. I enjoyed it but most of the places I loved as a child are either resort property or covered by Mauna Loa. Most of my friends have left also, too many people moved over in the eighties.

Where you wen spend time as a keiki? I miss the grinds, I taught my wife how to make Local Mocos and Lomi Lomi Salmon.

I find the ling hing mui seeds at the hippie organic food stores (something Leaf) in Tallahassee. My wife and coworkers loves them, more so the plum than the super salty ones. I love them all.

"Orinoco Flow" is one of my favorite pieces of music by which to dock. Either Eyna or Celtic Woman version. Put it on the sound system at about 600 yards out.

Stan Rogers - White Squall
just about anything else by Stan Rogers :)

Great listening for any quiet, wistful, anchored evening.

But then there is "The Woodbridge Dog Disaster". That is something else!
