Sailing Solo

Took my O'Day 25 out for my first solo sail on Monday. It was great. The wind was out of the Southwest at around 10-12 knots. Sailed from Groton to just off Race Rock then over to Niantic then back up the coast to Groton. I was nervous to solo ar first, but the 25 sailed excellent. Just had to boast!!!

The first time you solo your own boat is a wonderful thing. The feeling of connection you have as the boat becomes an extension of you is fantastic. 3 Simple Things for Solo Sailing

Enjoy single handed sailing my O'Day 27 Use the following 3 simple things as safe guards.1. Life jacket (inflatable)2. Trail a 25'line3. Boarding ladder has a trip line reaching to water line.Also reef sooner, fly spinnaker only if favorable conditions are present and never solo after dark.

Just started single-handing my Oday 23 this summer; after installing roller furling and a tiller tamer, I figured the time was right. Isn't it great? I wear my new inflatable PFD, and I like Bob's suggestion of trailing a 25' line. I went out three times in a row solo, and I found that I missed company, so the next two times, I went out with friends/family. I don't think I'm going to turn into a true solo sailor.

Do It all the time

If my wifes not into sailing that day I'll call 3 or 4 friends to see if they would like to sail if there to busy , great I'll go alone.I LOVE it. Always sail with a full main and jib so sometimes I'm a little overpowered but it's a blast, my oday 20 is a very dry and stif boat for a centerboard.
