Sailing Smith Mountain Lake Virginia

I am planning a quick trip down to SML in 2 weeks. have never been there before and renting cabin at state park and bringing down the X. Does anyone have any local knowledge about sailing SML? Does anyone know where to find a free electronic chart of the lake that i can use on Ipad or Iphone?

Interested in nice anchorages, places to swim, anything that would be helpful. Am going down to determine if we want to rent a house there for a few weeks next summer and bring the X with us. Again - any info will be helpful

Crazy Dave and rgranger know a lot more about SML than I do but we sailed there two years ago. The down side to this time of year is that most marinas and restaurants have closed until next year. The visitors center area should be open, though. I would go again if it weren't a five hour trip to get there. And who knows, maybe one day we will go again. It's a beautiful lake and we thoroughly enjoyed being there. Have fun and post pictures.
