I plan to take my family to St. Petersberg, Fla for the holidays. I plan to enroll them into a sailing school there. Does anybody know anything about "SmarterSail" (www.smartersail.com)? Trying to check it out before I give them a credit card. No reports on the BBB though. Thought maybe somebody here might know of them.

No experience with Smarter sail, but We (the wife and I) did Offshore sailing school in St Pete and it was GREAT! We did the Basic Keel Boat class and Their Live-aboard Bareboat cruising course. We were interrupted by Hurricane Charley, and the company offered us a full re-do of the course in our choice of locations, we chose Duck Key, and only had to pay for our flights. The Offshore sailing school is a good company to deal with.Keel boat is taught on Colgate 26's and the Liveaboard Bareboat course is on Hunter 45's... I highly recommend them. They are a US Sailing associate. I have no financial interest in O.S.S. Just my personal experience in dealing with them.

Don't know the company. But... I have been an ASA sailing instructor since 1985.

Go. Have fun.

Learning to sail is not too difficult once you understand where the wind is coming from. Living on a boat (if you are doing that) is very "cozy" and takes a bit of getting used to. That said, I have taught live aboard courses for 15 years and only had a couple of people find it not fun.

I recommend the International Marine Book of Sailing.

Make a plan to keep sailing, too!
