I just bought a H22 and have never sailed a monohull, just a few sails on a Hobie. I've been thinking of a sailing school to get things right from the start. Anyone here suggest a good sailing school In the Tampa Bay area? I've seen several listings online but I would like input from someone that has gone to a local sailing school. Thanks, Rick

sailing school

I only had expierence with a sunfish when we bought our 22. It is a very easy boat to sail. Just be careful as does not seem to like winds much above 15. Sailed ours once in 35+ gusts, don't care to again, it was heeling about 30 degrees. Although it is a way to go, St Augustine SAiling has some of the most reasonable rates for ASA classes. Thought about taking them. Good Luck.

Annapolis Sailing School

Many many moons ago my wife and I went to Annapolis Sailing School in St. Pete. It was run out of a Marriott Hotel as I recall, right on the bay close to the BIG bridge. I guess they are still there. Net search? As I recall, three out of the four skippers that taught us were good. The last guy just lacked some "people skills".

Reef early

I was out Saturday and the wind was pretty strong. The small lake was all white caps with gusts around 25-30. I had only my main double reefed and was moving around 5.5 by the GPS. I put up the 110 and was doing 7.5 downwind with the waves. (I also have a 155 for light air and a asemetrical spiniker). I usually start thinking of reefing if the wind is above 10. I love my H22 because of the cabin size. Reef early and you'll have no problems.
