Hey
I've sailed for 40 years mostly self taught but lately I've had the erg to start racing but I'm completely clueless as to the rules and strategies involved . I'd like to purchase a dvd on the subject. Does anyone have any recomendations ? There are a lot of them out there but I'm sure some are better than others. your thoughts

In addition to studying the racing rules, you should arrange to crew on an experienced racer's boat for several races before you race your own. The reason is that racers routinely sail much closer to each other than cruisers even want to think about, and in the process push the right of way rules to the limit. Particularly at starts and mark roundings they may be less than one foot from each other. Ducking the transom of a right of way boat might make you'd think they're trying to ram one another. Racing is a lot of fun, but its a completely different mindset than cruising. Make the transition easier on yourself, learn a lot, have fun.
