for me, the season of 18' seems to be a totally different focus for me than most of you all from what i read. let me explain; aeolus, my old alden, is ready to sail. all maintenance i understand and either do it or have it done. both the yard and i know the boat intimately. the boat was put away ready to get wet again.
i have a life time of knowledge about sailing and have been highly trained to master these vessels. so here comes what i call amongst my friends " sailfest 18' ".
my preparation is about me. i'm sixty five. now i have to earn it. do the work. i call it the triad. 1, i work out every day, for an hour, doing a routine designed for me to improve my health while not injuring myself..... -you have to do the work and it is hard. 2, i now eat for health only. the best foods prepared for my needs. must say, it's all fun and tasty. Dr. Mark Hyman has trained me, cleveland clinic. healthy living specialist he has many books, and endless you-tube lessons. 3, no smoking, no drinking. at this point in my years on this earth, being fresh is the best feeling of all.
every thing on aeolus is still 1966. it's all manual. it's all old school. it's all the way i was trained as a kid. i love this style of sailing the best. it takes a crew for my vessels. i love it.
i want to sail hard. real hard. i want to sail soft. delicately too. my health will be the only determining factor as to what i get to do.
my brother is 69 and does 40 pull ups. my first is 66 and can do 6 pull ups.
push ups, ten kinds. pull ups, 5 kinds. i'm struggling. thrusts, all directions. ouch. .squats, i try. stretching every thing ouch, weights, kettle bells.
it's hard work. it's the only way to sail, not ride, aeolus one more summer.
