We spent a few days this week in Long Beach, WA on the coast just north of the Columbia River with two other couples. While the women were riding their horses on the beach, they guys were playing with the "Land Sailor" in the picture. It was a kind of dune buggy made of tubular steel with a sailing rig from a wind surfer added. Steering was by foot pedals linked to the front wheel. Our biggest challenge was that the wind was blowing either up or down the beach the entire time we were there. This involved tacking upwind on a narrow section of beach where the sand was just right. The wheels would bog down in the heavy dry sand or if you got into really wet sand covered by much water. So we short tacked upwind and raced downwind. It was a real hoot accompanied by much laughing and screaming especially when one of the wheels came up as in the picture with me at the "helm". Want to go sailing? Who needs water? Low resisitance sailing

I used to windsurf a lot and in the winter we would connect our rigs to oversized skateboards and go "sail" in the mall parking lots late at night. Helmet and pads required. We would use a car to figure out how fast we were going(before GPS). 30-40 mph was quite easy in a 10-12 knot breeze. Those were the days! Photos are not of me. Tim R.

Where is the rental place?

I was down there a year ago, and didn't see any for rent, or did you already own yours? I would love to try it. Does it come with training wheels? ;d

If you think that is fast you should try

ice boat sailing.
