Hunter 240 Santa Cruz
I am considering buying a Hunter 240 and was wondering if anyone has any experience sailing a small, water ballast, swing keel boat in the San Francisco bay. I am concerned about being out for the day and having a heavy wind and chop rise. Thanks, -k

Your concerns...

are justified. With afternoon winds usually over 20 kts., lots of current, waves, and other traffic, that would be a tough sail.

Yep

I've a 240 - it will get you home, no problem, in those conditions, but I would want a stiffer boat if 20kts+ and a good chop is an everday occurence.

I sailed there a lot

I've sailed there tons (but not for awhile). At the time I had a swing keel Windrose 24 and never had a problem. It can be pretty bouncy there, but lots of fun. I think the WB might be a little tender. Though as always -- reefing early can make a huge difference. Surely there are those here who have sailed a WB there???
