I will be traveling next week to Le Lavandou (half way between Toulon and Saint Tropez) to receive my new Beneteau 361 and sail around the area for a couple of weeks. Not knowing much of the area, I would appreciate any advice from experienced sailors. Places to go and to avoid, or any information that may be helpful.

Cruising the cote d'azur [France]

There are plenty of cruising guides with the info you seek. Maybe Fred Woods store is still in business in Marblehead. Bluewater Books in Ft. Lauderdale has all the info. I suggest you cruise East as far a Monaco and make sure you have a good weather source as the Mistrals really blow hard this time of year. Best stops are the Porqurelle Islands, St Tropez, Cannes, the twin Islands of Margurite and St Honore, Golfe Juan, Juan Le Pins, Antibes, Nice Harbor, the bay at Cap Ferrat opposite Villefranche [charming] and then Cap D'ai near Monaco, and Monaco harbors old and new. Bring plenty of francs and don't be surprised if you have to pay a "tip" in order to get a dock in the bigger ports. E mail me if you need more. GJH

Thanks to GERRY HULL

Gerry, thanks for the tips. I agree that weather is the weak link in this trip. Which source do you recomend for that part of the world? You can e-mail me directly to jgvenegas@hotmail.com

Porquerolles, Cassis

Hi, I wish you pleasant sailing. If you can be sure to visit Porquerolles Island and maybe on your way to Cassis stop by Sannary sur Mer or Bandol and taste a good local wine. I have been sailing in this region 2 years ago on a Gibsea 352. Your 361 should be a treat. regards robert Vincent 3ci1@excite.com
