We may be relocating to the Tallahassee area. Anyone who sails Apalachee Bay or nearby areas care to comment on the sailing, including marinas, docking costs, approriateness of a shoal-draft Hunter 27 (82), etc., for those waters? Invest the extra time and sail out of Panama City. The water is infinitely cleaner and you will spend a lot less time aground. Look at a chart of Apalachicola Bay(M11404S0) and you will see mostly single digit depths. Lots to do in and around Saint Andrews Bay. Pristine white beaches. Sail Out Of PC

I totally agree with Larry. Son lives in Tallahassee and it's only a 45 min. drive on Interstate 10. Well worth it, achoring on the bay side of Shell Island, walk over and enjoy miles Gulf beach.

Panhandle sailing

I will be relocating to Panama City next year, spent many years in Tallahassee area, and I really agree with other posts. Shell Point Marina is the only sailboat marina close to Tallahassee and you have to watch the tides to get out of there. It's 45 min. drive. A few people keep sailboats up the St. Marks River, but it's a 6 mile motor to get out to the Gulf. Panama City is more like a 1 1/2 hour drive, but the water conditions and depths are night and day.
