Taking Advice

WOW! Little cranky today? Judging by your response to Chips little joke, I doubt you take much advice about anything regardless of signatures. This is a discussion among sailors not a consultation from a doctor. I don't think anyone is planning their future on the input. Perhaps your response is just a symptom of too much winter!

Good Practice

With the enging running but not in gear as a backup we tried docking last year by sail. It was a really good experience since I know that one day we may have to if ever the diesel cuts out and we are force to sail in. We used the main only since the tack was so simple and the control was all done in the cockpit. Great practice and builds your skills as a sailor.

IMHO, if you really understand the risks of your actions, and are willing to take responsibility for the consequences, then Go for it! And to repeat what others have said, use the main when the wind is fore of the beam, and use the Jib when the wind is aft.
