O bought a 25' fixed keel sailboat ( I own 3 other sail boats so this is nothing new) site unseen on Long Island. I am planning to sail it as far away as I can get form new york before having it loaded on a trailer.

It looks like its north up the hudson or south to the raritan river area. I am looking for some advice and maybe some ansers to the folowing:

Are bridges in this area a problem?
Is water depth a big issue?
Will marinas still be open this time of year?
Is the area sailable this time of year?
Any marina recomendations to do the haul out?

Thanks!

hudson river is estuarial--has a tidal flow.
i learned to sail on hudson from catskill creek north and south--we sailed thanksgiving weekends with nothing but cold as a deterrent. there is no ice even to north troy at thanksgiving.
is beautiful area for sailing. have fun and smooth sailing. bridges were tall enough for a tall masted sloop built in 1903. ships and tugs with barges traverse the river to north troy.
there is a marina/yard in catskill creek. my uncles wood boat was hauled there every winter from 1951-1998. is still there and has been improved, from the pix i have seen of it--

I purchased our current vessel in Kingston NY last fall. Wintered her there at a marina about a mile up the Rondout river called Jeffs Yacht Haven. Excellent people to deal with and reasonable rates. I would do business there again in a heartbeat.

You may find that some marinas are shut down by November. Few are open year round.
There are few bridges to worry about mostly on the East River (east side of Roosevelt Island) and the Harlem River which is a no-go for sailboats, unless the mast is already down.
There are a few places you might use in Raritan Bay. The place in Kingston sounds pretty good too - the sail up there could be really beautiful at that time of year. Could also be a bit cold.
I assume you will be having the boat hauled down to MD? Where is she now?
