Hi; I am a sailor from the Caribbean, Puerto Rico, living in Indianapolis until Dec. I am getting the NO Sailing Syndrome and need some help to be cured, Need info on where to sail, any kind (sailboat, windsurfing, etc.) and where they have rentals. Or if anyone needs help with their sailboat, needs crew or needs sailing lessons. Thanks in advance!!!

Indiana Sailing

Might try the Eagle Creek area in Indy. A while back there was a weekly racing and a number of sail boats, but I don't know about rentals. To the south a bit, try the Lake Monroe Sailing Association (there is a web site and a Yahoo news group). Might be able to get some sailing with one of the members (many from Indy). LMSA does not have rentals, but does have sailing classes for kids and adults. The marina at the 4 Winds Marina on Monroe (or a vendor of some sort) rented small sailboats (Hobies, etc.) a few years back, but I don't know the status of that operation at this time. A number of sailing folks keep boats at that marina as well. One other possibility is the Bloomington Yacht Club on Lake Lemmon, just north and east of Bloomington. I have no knowledge of their activities, but sailing there seems to be limited to small pocket cruisers and day sail activities. Of course, charters are available on Lake Michigan and the other Great Lakes. You might also contact Sailboats, Inc. in Indy. They may know of other options.

Eagle Creek Sailing Club

As Bill mentioned, The Eagle Creek Sailing Club on the West side is a good place to start. They race Wednesday nights and Sunday afternoons. http://www.ecsail.org/ There is also the Indianapolis Sailing Club on Geist reservoir on the North side of town. http://www.indianapolissailing.org/ We keep our 24 foot Cabin boat at Lake Monroe Sailing association down south of Bloomington as the lake is bigger. http://www.lakemonroesailing.com/

Brookville Lake - Brookville Lake Sailing Assoc

Another option is Brookville Lake. It's about 11/2 hr southwest of Indy. Tomorrow. the handicap fleet and J24 fleet have races, then afterwards there's a wine tasting social. The j's are always looking for crew. Captain's meeting is at noon and races at 1:00. It's all very casual and layed back. You'd be welcome to just show up. . Our last year's vice commodore is from Indy and also sails a Beneteau, a 323. Below is the web address.
