Hunter 26 Harbor Town Marina, Lake Allatoona
After only sailing my recently purchased Hunter 26 off the coast of Savannah GA for a few months, I may be moving to Atlanta for work. There are a couple of lakes there that are large enough to sail on. Anyone have a suggestion as to what lake and marina to use? Thanks.

A friend of ours has her Hunter 26 on Lake Sidney Lanier at the Aqualand Marina. Aqualand Marina bills itself as the largest inland marina in the world. They seemed like nice people when we were up there visiting. No personal interest myself. We just went by to see her boat.

I have had my slip at Sunrise Cove on Lake Lanier for over 8 years and have been very happy there. As you mention, the other large sailboat marina is Aqualand. Holiday Marina is another option, but it has plenty of powerboats and large houseboiats which mean traffic and noise.

I favor the end of the lake where Sunrise Cove and Aqualand are located. Feel free to PM me if you want to talk further.

Knot,

We had Guenevere, our Nor'Sea 27 at Aqualand Marina on Lake Lanier for quite a time before we moved aboard and then went cruising full time.

We spend many a weekend and week long vacations there. Was always fun to sail over to the hamburger stand at the other marina.

Both Aqualand and Sunrise Cove marinas on Lake Lanier are good with nice people. I prefer Aqualand. There is an outside grill at Aqualand that gives you a nice view of he lake as you eat/rest.
These are good marinas if you have access to the south side of the lake and plan to go up highway 85 then 895 to get to the lake. If you go up the 400 side of the lake you would want a marina on that side.
I sail with the Barefoot Sailing Club. There is also the Lake Lanier Sailing Club. They are a nice group but I cannot afford the initiation and membership fees.
