Sailing course

Suggest American Sailing Association (ASA). My wife took courses through this organization in San Francisco, California area.

Offshore sailing has a number of different courses in many locations. I've taken many of them and thought they were excellent.

I've been looking into classes as well.

Checking out packages to go through ASA 104, Bareboat Charter. Most run 8 days plus.

Keeping my search to the SanFrancisco Bay and Monterey Bay areas.
Other than Monterey Bay Sailing I have only searched online.

Spoke with Captain Dutch of Monterey Bay Sailing when the wife and I went for a short cruise with him. Personable guy, laid back.

We took ASA classes at Spinnaker Redwood City and really liked our instructor, Bob Diamond. The classes were well worth the money.

Suggestion: if possible, go somewhere warm to take your course(s). It's much more fun that way and feels more like a real vacation. As an ASA Instructor I would recommend the ASA program, but I've also taken all the US Sailing courses and they are good as well. You will get much more out of any class if you really read all the material beforehand!

I second that. My wife and I, although we were both experienced sailors, took an ASA course to make it easier for us to bareboat charter in Europe. We took the course in the Grenadines. It was super. Just my wife, me, and the instructor. I got the Basic keelboat and Coastal Cruising certs, and my wife got the Basic Keelboat cert, and we basically had a tour guide along with us.
