If the OP hasn't given up on this thread: my opinion, based on the original stated need for more space would be the Hunter. Provided he has a vehicle that can tow it. That's from a guy who had a Mac 26S for 10 years.
Sailing characteristics between Hunter 26 , Catalina 250, or Mac 26d.

The OP did buy a Hunter and he has posted on the Hunters as well as ask all sailors. He is enjoying his boat.
Actually I do have a hunter 23.5 but I did not buy a hunter 26 yet, I'm keeping my eyes open for one but It would have to be bought in Canada, As with the US exchange rate it is not worth it, unless there is one for a smoking deal.
