Sailing Beaufort

Some pictures of me sailing, grilling and watching Judge Judy anchored in Bass Creek. Bass Creek is North West of Morgan (Monkey) Island. It is way out there and up the Creek. Never saw another boat in the creek. These pictures taken from my Sony action cam AS15 video. Beaufort is my new sailing waters. Only 15 minutes more in drive time. Many new places to explore this year. I usually sail Charleston. I am ashamed to say I never visited these beautiful waters or the town in all of the 24 years I've lived here. This year it will be my new sailing area. Only 15 minutes extra driving distance.

Thanks for all the comments

nice pics...love the table and TV, looks comfy
I really enjoyed being out with the monkeys, dolphins, eagles, deer and other assorted birds. Was nice to have that whole creek to myself. Very relaxing extended weekend. Here is a map of my trip. On the first day it was too rough to photograph the monkeys. I anchored in Bass Creek and come morning, the water was like glass. I motored back over and got several good pics of the monkeys. Here is my trip route for those interested.

Fantastic! The racers will begin arriving Friday. Racing begins early afternoon Saturday. Covered dish supper with hamburgers provided afterwards. More racing Sunday. We should have a few open slips if you want to stay overnight on your boat.

I'm not a racer but I'm excited to have this regatta at our club.

Shhhhhh! Beaufort is a sailing secret

Don,

Shhhhh! People aren't supposed to know about Beaufort. ;)

Remember, its just a place to stop on you're way north or south to spend your boat dollars. (Just kidding). Welcome to Beaufort and I know you'll find lots of places to visit and anchor. Just watch the tides and you'll stay out of trouble.

Thanks Snowman! I have made it a comfortable place on the water. Everybody asks me why I don't go bigger. My C22 can go up to 80MPH on the highway. It can be in the Keys in 14 hours from my house, give or take a few, depending on traffic. Has very comfortable sleeping areas for two, the V berth/dinette. Has full standing headroom in the main cabin, has lots of storage, has a great cockpit for lounging. Has TV, extended WIFI, Bluetooth Stereo system built in for great sound, Fishing gear for trolling/crabbing/fishing, pressurized water with built in sink, hot garden sprayer shower in cockpit, galley with tip up side tables, Awning with built in water collection, five gallon potty, Hatch air conditioning I never use, Easy set up on the water or land. The only thing I have not added, is a pop top cover. I may design my own. I have one I bought for a newer C22. Will not fit mine. I don't like the snaps used to hold it down. I like the stability, the swing keel design and the way she sails. I have the perfect boat for me and the way I use it. I plan to sail Wateree in April. Bigger means more pain in my_____. I like my tiny hole in the water.

dgreen: I admire the innovative table you built that fixes to your tiller handle. Would love to do that for our Catalina 27. How do you get it to not rotate? Can you post photos of the clamp system?

The sides of my tiller are flat, to keep the table from rotating requires a tight fit. Used cardboard as a template. I cut a notch a little smaller than the width of tiller and pressed it onto it. The cardboard held the shape and I traced it onto the lumber. I used the fussy side of Velcro I had for the top of the notch. 4 wing nuts. Hold it tight. I designed it to be light weight.

What I really like about it is the ability to slide it out of the way by moving the tiller. I have a tiller holder that uses 2 friction spools and a spring. I can't remember the proper name of it. I can move the table and it will stay there regardless of the rudder and water. I really like it. I do not use the inside table because it is uncomfortable for long periods sitting. I like to lounge. It also frees the space under for storage.*My 2 scuba tanks store there when diving is planned. I like eating in the cockpit and enjoying the sunsets. It also is a great place to set my laptop on.

Folds flat for storage

Genius, love it thanks! Am definitely building one.
Here is another couple of pics. I used thin oak for the table. And glued oak ribs to give it more strength. A couple of small ribs for the piano hinge. Place the hinges opposing so it does fold up on you when mounted to the tiller. The tiller is totally protected on all sides by fussy Velcro adhesive. You could eliminate the edge ribs and make it even lighter. I already knew where I wanted to stow it before I built it. You may want to determine the size by that. Also, a nice thing about the tiller mount is you can pull it over your lap if you like. I made a cardboard shape first to see if I would like the size. I think I made it 3 inches shorter on each side than the foot well. Make sure you get the height right so your legs can go under it. The cardboard shape can help you determine the height of the forward and rear mounts. I used a round dinner plate to trace the rounded edges. You may want to match the outside trim stain. I did not. I matched it to my homemade Galley.

Wow, thank you for the additional details. Super appreciate how thoughtfully you planned the whole thing out, right down to it's storage location. It's evident from your pics that your whole boat has benefited from the same attention to detail. Well done, enviably ship shape!
