Sailing at Anchor

Brion;My boat a 36 ft Gozzard seems to sail at anchor. I suspect it was because the anchor rode came into the boat at the end of the bow sprit. I am thinking of attaching a snubber lien to the hull attachment point at the end of the bob-stay What do you think of this idea and what kind of fitting or shackle should I use - galvanized or stainless steel and would an ordinary anchor shackle do?Thanks

No Backstay

Just checking to see if I missed something...one can't have a riding sail if one doesn't have a backstay, correct?

Topping lift?

No backstay complicates the use of a riding sail - but I suppose you might be able to use the topping lift. You'd have to sheet (or vang) the boom down, to prevent it's lifting. I've never done it, so maybe I'm just blowing smoke.Gord

Thanks...that might work. Means I will have to straddle the beam to get to it and then tie the back end somewhere down below like maybe the stern swimming handles. I'm thinking I will try a spring line attached to the rode going to the stern clevet and then back up to the winch and angle the boat just a bit like they recommend for the sea anchor first and if that doesn't work, then I'll try the riding sail.
