Bluefin marine weather for android.

Also, navionics for real basic gps.
Nuticharts light.

The Bluefin is actually useful for checking latest weather.

The other 2 are more for playing around with when im waiting in a doctors office or something.

I use Isailor. It's electronic charts. Pretty accurate.

I use one by EarthNC which seems to be fairly accurate.

I'll use it to track my speeds and locations while on the water, but I use it more at home on my iPad to check areas before I sail into them. It's a full chart plotter and it will give you info on harbors.

I use windfinder (it's free) and the wind predictions are usually not too far off for a few days out. It breaks down wind speeds for the day by every 2 hours I think. It's tied into local wind speed monitors, so it mght not be everywhere, but I use it to check wind conditions before I head out.

GPS Essentials for Android from mictale.com, I found it to be very useful and interesting.

In addition to to Windtraver, I also use WindAlert which gives a line graph picture of the current winds. It also shows gusts a few minutes after they occur. That way I can go "whoa, how big was that one?"

Anchor Alert is good for detecting if your position moves. Stick your iphone on your kid when he's in time out, and you'll hear if he moves. lol

I also have Navionics, although I do most of my navigating by DR, since I can see all 4 shores at all times.

Most definately Bluefin Weather.

I also bought the Navionics app for the Great Lakes, matches my Humminbird plus has depth readings.

Pirate Bouy is cool, it will give me instant readings on the Bouys on Lake Ontario and Marine Traffic which shows all the AIS traffic on the Lake. That is cool to see the freighters out on the open water.

I also like Google Sky.

I have a couple that I like, "Boat Weather" can be set to give current NOAA conditions in your area.
"Buoy Data" is another source of NOAA observations.
"Wind Alert" offers wind speed and directional flow in a defined area.
An app called "Rope Knots offers an animated tutorial on a variety of sailor's knots. It's kind of fun when your waiting for a dentist appointment.

A huge caveat- smart phones and water are not a good combination.

For an iPhone you can get a waterproof case from Lifeproof. I watched a guy swim with his. Big bucks though. SC
