Sailing after 9 - 11...

We went for our first sail Thursday, since the tragedy in New York 9 - 11. I guess I was just too stressed out to think of something so self indulging as sailing. Yet, I think it did me good to spend the day letting the wind carry us so effortlessly,-- while at the same time the cares and concerns of the world seemed so far away. Some things just haven't changed. The wind can still set a sail. The water still reacts the same way when the boat cuts across the bay. The rudder still moves the bow .... Thank God for sailing... and the USA for giving us the freedom to go after our dreams.

Went sailing tonight, and I mentioned to my wife that it was important to take into account just how lucky we were just to be out sailing on this particular Friday night. I then added that we should appreciate the voyage many times over what we normally would, in honor of those in New York, Washington, and elsewhere who were attending funerals, searching hospitals, or otherwise mourning the loss of their loved ones. I spent the entire week of 9-11 trying to contact my old college friends from SUNY Stony Brook on Long Island. Every time that I found out that one was okay, I felt relief - only to feel guilt that someone else was not feeling as good as I was at this moment. Here's to justice. And to revenge - a plate best served cold.... Rob

Our view had changed.

We sail out of Sandy Hook. So the view used to be the towers. It seemed very strange.
