I have a pair of jacklines running along the cockpit sole as well as along the side decks. IMO, these work better than being hooked directly to a pad eye at the helm, as I've seen for some. You can move fwd in the cockpit to attend things and w/o having to unhook until actually at, or through, the companionway. Better for reaching the jib sheet winches while still tethered, etc.
