Hello Oday dudes. I've got a project, (among several), on this Oday 28, that has a saildrive/OMC engine in it. My experience is truly more inboard diesel oriented, and I've had my share of outboards too, the mechanics are not a problem. But not this particular animal. This engine is leaking badly around the adapter area, it's very difficult at this moment to ascertain exactly which one. So the question is, can ANY part of the powerhead be pulled off of the boat, while it still sits in water? I really sort of doubt it from the parts diagram I'm seeing, but I thought I'd ask some folks that have probably had some hands on dealings with these particular engines.
I'm going to have it hauled in about a month anyway, I've got to put a bottom on it, and fix a couple of leaky thru-hulls, but I was just curious if I could "jump the gun" a little bit.
BTW, it's not my boat, or it would be on the hill right now. I'm just trying to get a little more time out of it for the owner before I haul it.

So say you?

I haven't separated the power head from the saildrive unit yet as I pulled the whole thing at once. It would be a pain to do while in the boat and hardly seems worth it. I'll take a closer look at it tomorrow. There is is a nice article at Judy B'Jou website that has a permanent mounting plate that make a OB mount braket removeable. He did it so that he could sail while his motor was being worked on.

I pemanently mounted my OB because I do not intend to repair the motor.
