The sails on my 1979 Oday 23 appear to be original equipment (they were made by Neil Pryde). I am thinking about sending them to Sailcare at the end of the season for cleaning and repair. Does anyone have any experiences with this company? Is this a worthwhile investment or should I just save my money and buy new sails instead?

I just sent my three 1983 O'Day Neil Pryde sails to Sailcare. They had been sitting on an unused boat for ten years before I bought the boat. I will get the sails back from Sailcare in the next two weeks. I am hoping for the best.

I have used them for sails for an '87' 272 and a '89' 322 and they came back GREAT. They will contact you with an estimate before they do the work. Send the sails as soon as possible after the season. They get real busy during the winter. Good Luck. Jeff

Sail Care
We used sailcare this winter to "re-new" our very tired main, pretty good shape jib and genny for oue 1975 Mariner. The sails came back to us in way better condition than i could of only dreamed of. Not only is there cleaning process very good they also did many very professional repairs. All this for half of what a new main would of cost. I would give them two thumbs up.

Decided to replace
I just replaced the sails on my '79 Oday 23. Like yours, they were the original Neil Pryde deal. No rips, tears or stains; in other words, no "need" for replacement. However, I am very glad I bought new sails. As good as Sailcare may be (I have no experience with them), your sails will not come back functioning any better than they did before; they may look better, they may not have the holes, tears or unravelling seams, but they will still be the same blown-out, shapeless things they were before you shipped them off. I can't get over how much difference the new sails make on my boat. I can point so much higher and go so much faster it seems almost like a different boat. If you can afford it, go for new sails.
