Sailboats vs Motorboats

My 14 year old daughter made a You tube video for school, I loved the concept & put it on You Tube for her. Some mistakes, but I read her script... exactly as she wrote it.

My thoughts were adding that motorboats are essential for coast guard, military, fishermen, off-shore worker, and probably account for about 90% or more of the recreational boats out there.

If you were her teacher, what would you give her for a grade? (Dad for narration? acting?) Thanks!

Us sailors are obviously going to like your video. You have a good narration voice. Thanks for posting.

Written by a 14 year old? Clearly has a parent into sailing! LOL...

Thanks, it meandered a bit, I wanted her to do it all herself, it was hard not to tell her to use more of our own cruise sailing vids, or her opti/420 vids, I like the pace, and I am happy we have an advocate for sailing. Thanks for your input.

I'm a teacher... is there a rubric for grading this project?
The video is great but somewhat one-sided. Lots of sailing, sailboats, sails, but not much showing the downsides of powerboats. Not having a powerboat to make videos of is a problem here. The clip of the people being thrown around the powerboat with nothing to hold onto is really on target: they can be uncomfortable and unsafe going too fast. Finding footage like that which shows the downsides of powerboating is hard because the downsides make such footage difficult to make and mostly not worth watching if it actually is made. You can't hear a thing over the engines. The boat hitting waves jiggles the camera so the image is fuzzy. Spray gets on the lens. A shot of a powerboat fueling up with the pump running over $500 would give the price message more impact - but where would you find something like that online? You would have to go to a fuel dock and wait for a big sport fisherman to come in and make the video yourself. It's a bit early in the season for that and the project is due yesterday!! AAACK!
The writing is great with logical progression and good points. The narrator speaks clearly, with authority. The screen transitions at the beginning were jarring, and could perhaps be slowed for better effect. The sailing clips showed the positive attributes of sailing beautifully. The downsides of powerboating (costs, noise, breakdowns, etc.) while they were well-described in the narration, were not as visible in the videos. The medium is the message, so... for the writing, overall presentation, narration, audio and effort: A+. The video portion could be slightly improved next time: A. Good work!

Having made a video about a sailing trip I appreciate the skill it takes to create and edit a video. She did a very good job. Most importantly she made it about the right length. I didn't know it when I did mine, which was almost a half an hour, that there is a tacit 5 minute rule. That is about the attention span most viewers will have.
I've never been one to dis power boats. The sounds, speed and motion of sailboats is special. But riding in style on a classic power boat is pretty special too.
