Sailboats at Auction?

Is there a legitamate sailboat auction website out there?

I was planning to wait a couple of more years before I buy a sailboat, however, if the price was right for a 2005-2008 Catalina 310 or Beneteau 311 at auction, I would get it now.

I see some auction websites on line but they don't seem right.

Also, depending on where you are and how much time you have, it may also be worthwhile to contact the managers of large marinas in your regional area. At times, some may auction off boats that have liens against them or have been abandoned.

Why wait for an "auction" ? What are you expecting to gain at an auction? Check out some boats in your range and make an offer, that is reasonable to you. The worse they will do is say no.

Many auctions will not let you sea trial, or survey the boat anyway...many are as is, where is, you pay to move it and the like. Some of the damage boats can not be insured, nor could you get as good financing as you would with an offer arrangement.

Even if you bought new, you would get a tremendous deal over the past few years.

Why buy an auction boat. Most auction boats are going to be "as-is" and have some serious problems, often hidden. Given the current financial situation and market, buying a good used boat makes far more sense and gives you far greater choice of boats IMHO.
