Well i'm sure this comes up all the time, but im trying think of a good name for my boat. The only problem is that i keep thinking of ones that i like. Put these names in order from the ones you like the most to least. I know a sailboat name is a personal preference, i just like hearing feedback. Thanks

The first: Hoochie Koo from the song Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bq9BjZhxjcM

The second: Easy Breezy Just from the saying Easy Breezy beautiful cover girl, inferring that the boat is female etc..

The third: Two Tickets From Eddie Moneys song Two tickets to paradise
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eYEgYVyBDuM

I like them all, but am kinda leaning towards
Two Tickets/Easy Breezy
Hoochie Koo

Thanks!

Those are awful names.

It's really all subjective: name the boat what you want, instead of what we want.

And, in response to your approach of this coming up regularly (which it doesn't by the way), the advice given is this:

Pretend you NEED to use the VHF radio to call for help, or to open a bridge. You'll need to use your vessel's name. Try it out in public on the airwaves and see what it sounds like.

Folks ask me the name of my cat, I tell them I don't know, but I call him "Charlie" and he answers to that, so I guess he is good with it. I think other cats know him as"shredder of furniture" and "stainer of carpets"

Every time I hear someone ask what they should name their boat, I'm reminded of a boat I once saw, and a horse race that can be seen on YouTube. The name:
Hoof Hearted.
Imagine saying that boat's name three times over the radio. Sounds something like this:

Thanks for the input! That hoof hearted video is something else haha. The current name of the boat is Indomitable. I still have a month or so to figure it out so we will see.

Sorry man...... but that is a decision you'll have to make yourself.... If you are asking which one is the most clever...well that's different. Otherwise, you're on your own. Here's some resources if you're looking for "clever" or to see if yours is unique.. If you run out with these two... just google "boat names"

Whilst sailing in the Bahamas some years ago, I anchored next to a classic old wooden yawl that had a dinghy in tow. The boat's name was "Sexasea." The dinghy's name was "Sexashore." You get the picture....

I've always liked the name "Adventure Galley" for my boat but I decided to go with the name "Trinkka" which is kind of a fem boat name for a trinket or bauble. I had read about a guy who was going on a trek around the world in a 20' boat that he built and he named the boat "Trekka." Thus the name "Trinkka" came to me even though some boat manufacturer was building dinghies called Trinka. Only I spell my boat's name with two Ks and not one.
Some of the boat names that I've seen through the years were pretty original with a play on words like for instance the names "Loose Foot and Fancy Free", "Rappa Scappa", and "She-Brokus." These are some of the names that have stuck in my mind through out the years.

The Only Advice I Can Give…

…is, please, please, avoid the temptation to funny, punny, play on words, or be "cute." Give the boat a name that she can wear with a little dignity. If Sextacy were a woman, she's be a bimbo.

The other boats laugh at her in her wake.

But again, it's not any of my business. You'll do what you want to do: the only thing any of us can do is have an opinion about it after the fact.

Anchor Down nailed it. To add: go look at stinkpot boat names, you'll get a great idea of WHAT NOT to do. There's a friend who has his sailboat named WHY KNOT. Subtle but different than motorboat "cutesy" names. Last Boat III is funny, but fits on a MB more than a sailboat. The trend I see in naming newer bleach bottles after their girlfriends and wives is truly frightening.

I share the same philosophy as Anchor and Stu.... a sail boat should have a little dignity. Goofy, play on words, sexual innuendo names are for stinkpots... fishing boats, party barges, ski boat and their ilk are well suited to "sextacy" and "wet dream" etc.

That said.... naming a Cat27 like a battleship i.e. "Victory", "Conqueror", "Indominatable" or "Constitution" is pretty much ridiculous also.

Sailboats are not toys(maybe works of art, but not toys)... and they should not be given toy names. Their names should reflect the grace and elegance they represent. It is very appropriate to honor other elegant and gracefull things.... such as a beautiful or powerful woman... in naming a sailboat. "Lydia" "Aphroditie" "Queen Mary" (heh, heh). I like animal or action names too.... "Speedy" "Impulse" "Dolphin" "Kestrel"... The key is dignity... cute is fine as long as it isn't offensive or disrespectful.

So naming it "Gary Busey's teeth" might not be the best choice then?
Now... I like that one.... "Big Wednesday" one of the best movies... ever. Actually, naming a boat is so personal I should recant my previously stated opinion and just say... let it be, my brother, whatever you feel is totally appropriate.....

We have gotten away from the "Bigger is Better" syndrome and acquired a O'Day 25 which we have named "Gudenuph" meaning that she meets or exceeds all of our requirements including ease of sailing and maintenance. Happiness is a good fit, particularily in shoes and boats.
