As my wife and I were flying along the Chesapeake this weekend passing alot other boats. We would look at their sails and wonder what manufacture they were. "h" is Hunter a "H" in a circle is a Hinckley a black star in gold field is Island Packet Does anyone know of a web site that list all of the insignias for the different manufactures? What are these really called? Insignias? Jim S/V Java

Jim, This is a very good question and I really

hope someone has the answer. Last summer the grandkids wanted to know about almost every boat they saw. I also share the desire to learn to identify other boats. It would make a super activity for the kids and their need to use all the binoculars. The down side is that after about 30 minutes I'm sure they will find a way to chuck all the "looking glasses" overboard as they fight over the best pair. I do hope there will be a good answer or directions to the answer. Ray S/V Speedy

Try Sailing Illustrated by Royce

Inside the covers of this book are a few pages of sailboat insignias. Many are quite old and the group is not complete but it is a starting point. You can purchase this book on line at the following link.
