Has anyone tried to install sailboat davits on a Catalina 310. Or any other similar mid size sail boat? If you have had any success can you recommend a manufacturers. Many Thanks George Catalina 310 Number 261

I had a set of

St. Croix rotating davits from my old Mainship power boat I owned and attempted to install them on the 310. It was going to be quite a PITA so I gave up and sold them to a power boater. Nothing lined up where they needed to be installed and would have required custome made brackets etc. to do it right. I put my motor on the rail and tow the dinghy. If it's really rough I put it on the bow but if it's only sort of rough I drop the Pelican wheels, that are mounted to the transom of the dinghy for rolling up a beach, into the water to prevent the dinghy from surfing. The added drag is not noticed in those conditions but it keeps the line taught and prevents the "snapping" of the dinghy painter when it surfs up to the boat and then gets snapped back. The same could be achieved with the dinghy motor but I prefer it off the dinghy, and on the rail, when it's rough...

Sources for davits

George, if you're a member of the C310 Association, you should get Mainsheet magazine. Many companies advertise in that publication, some of them davit makers. Of course, there's always Google, for dinghy davits. Kato and Ocean Marine Systems are two. If you're getting specific about your model, then you can ask the people who build them for their experience with C310s and get references, in addition to this forum.
