I mentioned in a thread yesterday I was taking my wife on a sunset cruise for our 15th anniversary. I had kept it from her all week. We sail almost everyday and she loves to sail as much as I do. For the last 17 years we have shared the hobby. It was absolutely beautiful. I set it all up down to the flowers at dinner and cooked the lasagna. She had no idea what I was planning, just that I was planning something. Even used the evil little red box to provide AC at dinner.

Motoring out. All the goodies for dinner in the gift bags and the evil red box near my feet. Got to love an anniversary where the dress code allows for ugly flower print shorts.

Sunset cruise

Watching the sunset as the wine breaths down below.

Dinner down below as the boat swings on the hook. I was surprised that the small microwave used to warm the lasagna took more out of the generator than the AC did. Did not run both at the same time.

Heading back after the meal, grandma is watching the little one, time to get back.

A very happy captain taking us home.

I am sure there are few on this site that will argue sailing is truly a beautiful thing to have in your life.

Nice work....congrats. BTW what size "little evil red box" do you have? I've been leaning toward the eu1000i for battery charging. How do you like it?

I got the eu2000i. The eu1000i does not handle the initial surge of many AC units. Where I live it is often 95 - 100 degrees all the way to midnight for 3 months of the year. If you want to do any overnights on the hook, an AC unit is survival equipment during summer months. I love it. It allows me to stay on the boat when it would be very uncomfortable and allows me to carry power tools that I would other wise need to leave behind.

Thank you. I do feel blessed to be able to share things with my family. I love that my 6 year old always gets as excitied about sailing as we do. I have a good friend that rarely gets to take his boat out because his wife does not enjoy sailing. It is great when you share something that both of you enjoy.

Great story. I have been working dilligently to get our boat on the water. mrs. Irishguy is going to be so happy when we take that first cruise. She has added her fair share of sweat equity to the boat. It is something she has always wanted. Our anniversary is August 12 and hopefully, I am going to do the same thing. thanks for the idea... ;)

You guys live down here near us, we were wondering how it is going to be on the boat in the heat of the summer here. Good to know that I need to be shopping for a generator to run a little A/C.

Thanks guys,

This was a reminder that there are a lot more uses of the boat that we can do. We need to have more dinners and breakfasts on the boat. We stayed last night on the boat, but when we woke up the fog was meandering start up off the lake.... no wind at all. We also got clouded out last night for a moonlight sail. We are going to try again tonight for a moonlight sail.

RECESS you must be a smooth operator indeed if your powers of romance can overcome those shorts. (Aaieeeeee....) ;) Note how, even in the casual privacy of your own boat, your lovely lady has managed a coordinated and accessorized ensemble.

Hearty congratulations on your 15th anniversary. Our 20th is coming up this August; you've raised the bar, but also given me some inspiration.

I fulfilled my end of the deal. I gave her a handsome son. Here is yesterday's sail. He had his best friend. Her mother is my wife's best friend from high school and college room mate. We see them almost everyday and our young children are only six months apart. They have been raised together. She comes to my room everyday after school and comes home with us. They sound like an old married couple most of the time! They love each other dearly but disagree over the silliest things.

Honeymoon

RECESS, congratulations to both of you.

My wife grew up around ski boats in the mid-west. She really had no sailing or ocean experience.

We spent 10 days on a BVI bare boat charter for our Honeymoon. It was on a 35' Beneteau called "Second Wind". (Just happended to be the second marriage for both of us.) She loved it.

18 years later and we have purchased two sailboats together. We continue to escape the harsh mid-west winters with tropical bare boat charters.

We also enjoy sunset sails with wine and picnic basket meals.

Oh Recess-how lucky your wife is! What a sweet and romantic thing to do! I would LOVE it if my husband would do something like that for me. My Skipper has many good qualities but the romance thing-umm, not so much. Still we sail our Hunter 40.5 together and have been sailing compainions for many years. Congratulations to you and your lovely wife.

Thank you

My wife asked once if I thought she was high maintenance. I said, I do not know but I sure like having the job of maintaining you. She really isn't.
