I am not used to furls at all and this one on my (new to me) '79 C30 is buggn' the hell out of me! No matter what I do, I cant seem to get the "flapping" out of it. I have moved my cars back n forth, etc. Seems like the edge of the sail is a looser material so that it furls up real nice? Is this something that you just have to deal with having a furl jib? ( It seems to be about a 135 or so. Have yet to pull the other one out of the bag.... And to make it worse, I cant seem to get the slack out of the back of the main either! Wondering if there "stretched out"... Derek Hewson San Pedro '79 C30

there are too many possible problems but here goes... a- do you have the topping lift on the main boom slack when sailing? b-if there is a leech line, on either sail, is it tight slack? c-on the roller furling jib, it is very possible the sunscreen cloth, at the back of the sail, is too tired and needs replacement. d-your sails are beyond their reasonable life and need replacement. e- you need to bring a knowledgeable person on board to evaluate the situation. good luck. I will love to know what action actually produces a solution.

not part of furling jib

Hello, I have had two boats with furling headsails. One boat (catalina 22) had a Profurl, the other (Newport 28) has a Furlex. Neither had a problem with the leech of the sail fluttering. I don't know what is causing your sail problems, but I don't think it is because of the furling unit. Barry

It's very possible the sails are streched out given the year of your boat and especially if they're original sails. My sails were replaced when they were only 8 years old because of shape problems and the leach flap wasn't one of the problems, it was primarily draft and other issues. Check out this sail loft site for triming sails and look at chapter 6: http://www.uksailmakers.com/encyclopedia/1 It must be nice to be out there sailing this time of year! I am envious.
