Hi Don, In reading you book, I look at your drawing to see labeled on the port side "Fairlead Track" new word to me. Then during your explanation of TWIST you talk about control to adjust twist in the JIB being the "fairleads." this also being a new word for me. So now I'm think the fairlead is the block attached to a car and is spring loaded is a fairlead. Well to be sure I see in the glossary under Fairlead that says " it is a eyelet fitting through which a sheet is led." Ok now I'm good to go oppps. till I get to page 17 and it says " moving the JIB fairleads aft increases twist.. But now we get to page Angle of Attack page 19 I read " moving the fairleads INBOARD INCREASES the angle of Attack. I have two fairlead tracks you can barely see in my pics, one on the cabin top and the other along the port quarter gunnel. Getting to my question I can understand sliding my fairlead on the little car fore and aft. But when you say "Moving the fairleads inboard" do I put the Jib sheet on the cabin top fairlead track? Is this now the inboard fairlead? The other track is the out board one. Bare with me, My O'day is still on the hard and getting my home work done. Snow is melting, Lake Erie is thawing a we are getting open water again. 55 degrees today.

You can move them inboard if....
The jib doesn't self destruct on the stays. If you are going to be doing this much you should think about having two sheets on each side. One for each car. While you can tack and then re-route the sheet on the windward side for when you tack again, I find this tiresome. I only used the cabin top "farilead" aka "jib sheet lead" when I am really trying to point into the wind. And then it was usually only on one side as the Bay was wide open on the other tack.

Chuck R: First lets discuss the purpose of the inboard and outboard tracks. The inboard track is used for closehauled work and the outboard is used for all other points of sail. Most boats only have outboard tracks - it cuts the cost of production and since the outboard track is used for all other points of sail it was an obvious choice. My Catalina30 had a cabin top track but I could never figure a way to use it due to the safety lines being in the way. A simple fix for me was the use of a Barberhauler. If a mate was going to race a boat seriously he would install the inside track next to the cabin on the deck. In your case, like mine) I would forget about the cabin top track.
