On my 1988 O'Day 302, the little plastic cover on the mast that covers the opening to the slot for the sail slides finally gave out today. (You slide open the little cover to insert the sail slides on the sail track on the mast -- and then you slide it back over the slot after the sail is on to keep the sail slides from falling out as you raise and lower the sail.) This is a little piece of plastic that slides on/around some rivets in the mast. Anybody know where to get a new plastic cover? I check with West Marine and couldn't find it on the web. Maybe I'm not searching with the right name? Thanks to all who respond.

Mast Gate

I purchased mast gates for my Cat 22. Prior to that, I used a Sail Stop in the slot, but I had to leave the bottom slug out of the slot so I could reef. The mast gates come in different sizes. I bought it from Catalina Direct. http://www.catalinadirect.com/index.cfm

Sail Stop

While the Sail Stop mentioned by Ken below is probably the best thing to use, there are other alternatives. I was helping a friend prepare his new old boat to sail to his homeport last season when we had the same problem with a broken gate at the base of the sail track. We took a short piece of bungee cord with hooks at each end and wrapped it around the mast under the lowest sail slug. I assumed my friend would buy a Sail Stop at a later date, but a year later and he's still using that piece of bungee. Whatever works, works.
