sail to boom connection

I have an O'Day 23 1976. What do you use to secure the main sail down to the boom(there is an eye in the sail that slides between 2 pins with 3/16 holes on each side? Some type of clevis pin? I would like something easily removable to be able to take a reef in the sail.Tx for your helpYves

Yves, I am assuming you are referring to the front, or tack, connection on your sail. My O'days have had a stainless quarter inch pin, bent over at the starbord side, with a small roll pin in the port side of the pin. The pin stays captive in the boom, and there is a matching slot in the port side for the small roll pin. In reality, use any old pin; you will leave that connected anyway when you reef, and hook or tie in the reef.

Some variations on the tack pin

I agree...the mainsail tack is secured using a pin. My 1973 Oday 23 boom uses the same stainless pin bent on the starboard side, but is actually threaded to secure into the tapped hole on the port side of the boom fitting. Most any variation using a sturdy pin to capture the tack eye between the boom fitting holes will do the job.
