I have a question on how to replace a broken sail slug. I have a 94' H26 with an original Doyle sail. I was able to get the same type slug at west marine (I bought a bunch. All they had). However I am at a loss as to how to remove the clip that goes through the slug and gromet on the sail. The clip is plastic and looks like it is press fit and a one time operation and will fracture if I try to pry it apart. I was unable to get any of the clips at west marine, any suggestions. Only one is broken but if I sail with a heavy wind allot more will break, it is at the foot of the sail. Thanks Carl s/v Wind Shadow

Go For It

These parts, as you no doubt discovered are very inexpensive. Force it apart and if it breaks install a new one. It's wise to have extra's of both parts. They do break from time to time. Jeff S/V "Festivity" H26 1996

I bought a bag of them

I bought a bag of the plastic shackles from sailrite, but any sail maker should have them.

Plastic wire ties

can be used temporarily until you can get the proper plastic clips. West Marine does not carry them. I have found them at Boat US but they are very pricey there. I am about to return some sail slides I bought there because they are double what I paid for them at West. A sailmaker or sailrite will probably be your best bet for getting these things. You should buy a bagful if you can like Frank did. Then you will have some with you when the next ones break. I've had three break in the last 2 weeks so I am going to replace all of them. Good Luck Dan

Carl, I recently replaced some of my slugs on my 95 H26. I thought the same thing that they would snap and break. They don't!! They just snap apart.Pryed them apart with a screwdriver. Replaced them with a little larger slug, used a pair of pliers to snap them together and sprayed with teflon lubricant. Had no problems Paul H S/V Linda Belle

Try Sailrite

Sailrite has everything you need and at a better price than the boating DIYs. I also made a temporary fix with Ty-Raps. I used two of them on a slug. That was over a month ago.
