Sail slug alternative

Hi All,
My Oday 25 uses a sail slug stop for the main. The bottom 2 slugs are above the stop, which seems correct when sail is up. The problem is when I reef, the main has a lot of extra sail area at the mast. It looks like there should be a "gate" of some type here. It would allow slugs to drop down but not fall out. Am I dreaming or is there really such a thing? I've looked around the marina and slug stops seem to be common.
Or, am I missing something when reefing?

Michael, I have a 23. I have to remove my stop and release two slugs as well when I reef the sail.

I have to remove one sail slug from my mast track before I can reef the sail on my 222. I use a short piece of 3/16" braid line for my sail stop and tie a slipped Reef Knot to hold it. I've used this for years and it works great for me. Maybe it will work for you. All I do when I want to reef my sail is; take up on my topping lift, lower my Main down till the reefing ring is even with the rams head, untie the stop rope and stick it in my teeth while letting the slide out of the track, and retie the rope over the winch and under the rest of the sail slugs. It can be done so fast that it becomes so automatic, that you won't even have to think about it while you're doing it.
