I am considering purchasing a sewing machine to re-do the cushions in my S37 but it dawned on my that I could use one that would be good for sail repair and dodger/bimini repair. Anyone have suggestions as to make and model of a sweing machine for this purpose?

I would give Sailrite a check, I have heard nothing but good about them, I tried one and found it to be a great machine. In fact I bought one today. Even though I live in Fl also, and they have a store here I ordered mine from the main store in Indianna. I avoided paying sales tax. Google Sailrite and givr them a call Fair Winds Cap'n Dave

Sewing machine
I bought a used sewing machine several years ago from a sewing machine dealer that also did machine repairs. The dealer suggested I buy an older machine that was built before they started using plastic for the gears and other working parts. He sold me an old White Machine. It weighs a ton but it has been reliable for sewing canvas, cushions and minor sail repair. It works ok for lighter dacron sailcloth weights but isn't heavy enough to go through several four or five layers as is needed for making sails. I think I paid about $ 50.00 for it. It has probably saved me thousands. I made canvas covers for the teak, tiller & etc. I also made cushion covers. I have even used it to sew a few buttons on my shirts.
