sail repairs - sailcare

have a few needed repairs -

cat 25:
- on the genoa bottom edge of the luff tape(?) has frayed and nearly impossible to feed into the track. in a email from sailcare mentioned that is "difficult to repair". any others have this issue?
- main needs a few broken slugs replaced (sewn in)

cat 30:
- plastic discs for the dutchman keep coming apart and the line has made a small tear in the sail. as read on another post would like to replace discs with metal grommets.

preferences of using a company like sailcare vs a local sail loft? normally less expensive? in my case seems more involved to have the sails shipped than to just drop off. anyone recommend local shop in eastern long island? could also have the marina handle?

Put sail slides on the sail and then you can feed them into the track slot. Just lace them on the sail with some nylon string. Chief

I've used Sailcare for years and generally like them. Yet I think that their only advantage over a local loft is their cleaning process which I think is superior to what most local lofts can do. Sailcare is also sort of pricey since you also pay for a round trip via UPS. For the simple repairs you describe, I would use a local loft, however.

Warren's right. I had the same issue with the luff tape on one of our jibs and the local repair loft was able to put in a few feet on new luff tape. Not a big deal at all. Local loft is your answer. For both issues.
