It\'s interesting to see a wide variation in sail prices. Probably some of it has to do with whether or not it was built overseas.

I last fall I purchased a Banks RF 155 genoa for light air (0-12 knot range)

No uv cover, it was something like $1400.
Made out of Bainbridge Diax-P 120 (4.7 smoz)
I went with the Diax-P because it should shape a little better on those drifter days and is less expensive and more durable than some of the other laminates.
I also thought that as a light air sail, it wouldn\'t get a lot of hard use, so it should last a while.

I ended up going with Banks, because one of the racers in the club is a rep and measured out the boat.
I also got a mainsail for a Santana 20 from Banks and it works great, it both much faster and depowers so much better than the sail it replaced.

One of the things I like about the Banks sails I got is that they are made in Oregon.
I think they come from the Waagmeester Loft in Portland.

A guy at the sail club has some Nordac sails on his Cape Dory Tyhpoon and they work well for him.

When I got the boat, it had fairly new Doyle Durasail sails on it.

I\'ve got a Doyle 135 that is quite a few years old that I had the uv cover replaced on. It\'s been a good sail.
My Doyle main has also held up well. I am happy with the Doyle sails.

I also have an AirForce Sails 142 that is well made and has good shape. I am going to sell it as now that I\'ve got a light 155 and the AP 135
I don\'t really need the 142 (I do need the $$ for a 100 or a 110). I\'ve probably got less than 10 days of sailing on it and will sell it for $700 if anyone is interested.
It\'s a #6 luff tape with a blue UV cover. I\'m guessing it is a 6 oz sail. It is still very crisp.

I\'ll probably got with a dacron 110/100 when I get one.

You\'ve probably seen this discussion on Vektron and Hood sails: Hood Sails - Vektron for Main - SailNet Community

If you would like, I can ask the Banks guy to quote some sails for you (based on my boats measurements). He may also be open to some kind of group purchase discount.

-Tim

I got a 150 genoa last year from Doyle in annapolis.
This summer i purchased a new main from them also.
Similar prices to what you show.
The really interesting thing is that they sew the sails right here in the loft in annapolis.
The panels are cut at a doyle loft up north... rhode island maybe?
So its made here and the prices are reasonable.
