I HAVE A 1980 DAYSAILER THAT HAS NOT BEEN USED IN FIFTEEN YEARS. MY SAILS WERE CLEANED AND STORED IN A SAIL BAG IN THE LOFT OF ME GARAGE. HOW CAN I TELL IF THERE STILL GOOD. THEY HAVE NO RIPS AND WHEN I RUB THEM THEY DON'T FEEL TO SOFT.
....if the sails have been stored out of the sun and haven't gotten moldy. As to sail shape, that probably is about the same as it was when they were put away. And what do you have to lose by trying them? My old jib failed by tearing a rather large gap along the leech. We were about 10 miles from port at the time but it still got us home. A little noisy, but it made it.
