Can any one help with the protocol for the placement of mainsail numbers?

Thanks,

Dale

I'm not sure of any racing rules, but here are some pictures showing various sails with numbers. Hope it helps. I couldn't find a picture of showing the numbers on a 222 sail, but as you can see, it is pretty much the same position on any boat, at least proportionally. The pics of the 22 and 23 that both appear to be hull# 1978, were taken from the 1978 Sales Brochure, so I think O'DAY used that number only because of the Brochure year (same pics were used for several years, hey why spend more $$ updating pics if the general look of the boats hasn't changed).

You are ok. There is no regulatory (state or federal) for sail numbers. The requirement comes in if you intend to race.

If you decide to race then numbers will be required. Since O'Day is long gone, other than the US Sailing organization, I couldn't find an O'Day related group to assign a sail number.
So, after consultation with some forum folks, and a couple of other "googled" items, I went with the hull number. From all that I heard, and found, that is acceptable and should work fine.

If you decide to go for sail numbers, I found a good selection, very reasonably priced, at Sailright, www.sailright.com
